Istanbul Governorate announced that legal action has been taken against 28 people related to the Newroz celebration held in Yenikapı Square yesterday and that it has filed a criminal complaint against the Newroz Organising Committee.
In a statement, the Governorate said that the criminal complaint was filed due to the failure of the Organising Committee to take the necessary measures against the visuals and slogans during the celebration.
The statement by the Governorate reads: "Necessary warnings were made to the organising committee upon the determination that during the event held on Sunday, 23 March, images with criminal content were broadcast, slogans with criminal elements were shouted, banners were unfurled. Despite the warnings, the organising committee did not take the necessary measures under its responsibility. Our security forces have initiated legal action against 28 people who shouted illegal slogans and unfurled banners, and filed a criminal complaint against the members of the organising committee to the judicial authorities."
