ANKARA – Seriously ill prisoner Sıddık Güler, 85, held in İskenderun T-Type Closed Prison. Güler is not being transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institution (ATK) despite the decision of the Iskenderun Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor wrote to the prison on 21 May to refer Güler, who suffers from Alzheimer's, heart disease, hypertension and rheumatism, to the ATK. The prosecutor requested Güler to be referred to the ATK within 3 days without any hindrance. The prison administration notified the gendarmerie to take Güler to the ATK. However, although 25 days have passed, Güler has not been referred to the ATK.
'RIGHT TO LIFE IS BEING VIOLATED'
Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Şirnex (Şırnak) MP Newroz Uysal Aslan brought the issue to the Parliament. In the parliamentary question demanding a response from Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, it was emphasised that Güler's right to life and health was violated. In the parliamentary question, it was stated that the treatment against Güler was "deliberate".
The parliamentary question also asked why Güler was not transferred to hospital, whether the ministry was aware of this situation, and whether an administrative investigation was initiated against the gendarmerie who did not transfer Güler to hospital.
