VAN - Imprisoned Erciş Municipality former Co-Mayor Diba Keskin was given a 10 year sentence for attending the self-government press release and released.
On 12 October 2015, in the district of Erciş in Van, “the former co-mayor of Erciş Municipality Diba Keskin, who was arrested on the grounds that they participated in a press release about self-governing,was tried at the Erciş High Criminal Court together with 37 people including members of the municipal council. She was sentenced to 13 years and 9 months of prison sentence with the accusation of 'being a member of an illegal organization', 'propagandizing for an illegal organization' and 'publicly provoking crime'.
Diba who is being kept at Sincan Women's Closed Prison and City Council member Mehmet Nuri Çiçek was seperated from the mail file after the court of appeals reversed the decision.
The second hearing of the case was held today in Erciş 1st High Criminal Court. Çiçek demanded his release in his defense he made in Kurdish. The attorneys who made defense requested Diba's release as well.
The court sentenced both to 10 years for 'being a member of an illegal organization and released both.
