Newroz celebrations will be organised in Istanbul today under the slogan of "Democratic Society for Freedom" under the leadership of Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK). The venue for the Newroz celebrations is Yenikapı Square. 

 

The square is decorated with yellow, red and green flags. A giant platorm was set up in the square. Giant banners reading "Jin, jiyan, azadî", "Newroz azadiyê pîroz be/Happy Newroz of Freedom" were hung on the platform. Again, two LED screens were set up on both sides of the platform.

 

THEY CAME TO THE AREA WITH SLOGANS

 

Hours before the celebrations, the influx to the area started. Citizens started to enter the area from two different entrance points. The enthusiasm of the citizens wearing yellow, red and green shawls and scarves created colourful images. As the arrival of thousands of people continues, citizens frequently chant "Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)", "Bê Serok jiyan nabe (There is no life without Leader)" and "Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" slogans.

 

NEWROZ PROGRAMME

 

Mezopotamyaa Cultural Centre (MKM) artists Kadir Çat and Grup Praksis will take the stage during the celebrations. HDK Co-spokesperson Ali Kenanoğlu, Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) activist Gültan Kışanak, Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, DEM Party İmralı Delegation Member Sırrı Süreyya Önder, DEM Party Istanbul MP Kezban Konukçu and Êlih (Batman) Co-Mayor Gülistan Sönük, who dismissed by a trustee, are also expected to make speeches.
