More than 40,000 cases of sexual offenses against children in 2023

NEWS CENTER - According to the Ministry of Justice report, more than 40 thousand files were opened in 2023 for sexual crimes against children. Out of 36 thousand 275 perpetrators, 7 thousand 088 were sentenced and 7 thousand 108 were acquitted. 

According to the Ministry of Justice's 'Justice Statistics 2023' report, 40 thousand 713 new files were opened for sexual offenses against children in 2023. 36 thousand 275 perpetrators took part in these files. In the adjudicated files, 7 thousand 088 perpetrators were sentenced and 7 thousand 108 perpetrators were acquitted. 
 
Between 2015 and 2023, the file index for the crime of “sexual abuse of children” increased by 94 percent. In the report, where the file index is accepted as 100 as of 2015, the index in 2023 increased to 194 in 8 years. The highest rate in the file index by years was recorded as 219 in 2022.
 
14 THOUSAND FILES CLOSED
 
While 14 thousand 84 files opened in 2023 were decided as “no prosecution”, 14 thousand 299 files were opened for public prosecution.
 
As a result of a total of 14 thousand 919 files in the prosecution phase in criminal courts in accordance with the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), 7 thousand 088 perpetrators were sentenced in 6 thousand 656 convictions. 6 thousand 211 cases resulted in acquittals. In these files, 7 thousad 108 perpetrators were acquitted.
