Tent protest against embargo enters its 5th day 2025-05-19 16:28:01     NEWS CENTER – The protest launched in Makhmour (Mexmûr) against the embargo and arrest policies imposed by the Iraqi government continues with determination on its fifth day.   Residents of the Mexmûr Refugee Camp set up a protest tent in front of an Iraqi military checkpoint after members of a delegation traveling to Baghdad to discuss the siege and embargo on the camp were detained on their return journey.   Although Iraqi authorities had announced on May 15 that they would release the detained delegation members, they have not honored their promise. In response, the camp’s residents erected the protest tent at the checkpoint and continue their resistance.   Since April 10, the Iraqi government has imposed a new embargo on the camp. The entry of construction materials has been blocked, and residents — including workers and patients — are being prevented from leaving the camp. These restrictions have severely disrupted essential services such as hospitals, municipalities, and schools, leading to significant problems within the camp.
