Lawsuit against trustee protest 2025-02-21 09:29:46   ADANA - A lawsuit was filed against 3 people who were subjected to police violence during the trustee protest in Adana due to "resisting to prevent the execution of duty".   A lawsuit was filed against 3 people who participated in the protests in Adana against the appointment of trustees to the municipalities of Mêrdîn (Mardin), Êlih (Batman) and Xelfetî (Halfeti) under the administration of Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) on 4 November 2024. Adana Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation against Mehmet Kıran, Aydın Yiğit and Gürcan Turşak on the allegation of "resisting to prevent duty". Adana 12th Criminal Court of First Instance accepted the indictment. The first hearing of the 3 people will be held on 18 September.   The indictment alleged that police officers O.Y. and T.Ş. were beaten. According to the police report, Kıran, Yiğit and Turşak allegedly hit and pushed the police officers with their hands. The indictment alleged that Kıran, Yiğit and Turşak "acted in unity of thought and action and prevented the complainants, who are police officers, from performing their duties by using force against them".   WHAT HAPPENED   Adana Labour and Democracy Forces made a statement in İnönü Park on 4 November against the appointment of trustees to DEM Party municipalities. Police officers blockaded the park and tried to prevent the statement. There was a brawl between the police and the crowd. The police attacked the crowd with pepper spray. Gürcan Turşak was beaten and detained. People against whom a lawsuit was filed were also beaten by the police.   MA / Hamdullah Yağız Kesen
